Chatsworth Country Fair from September 2 to 4 – if you can afford it!

It was always a weekend to look forward to in early September – Chatsworth Country Fair and this year it is 30 years old.
On September 5 1981 the event launched and it has showcased the best of the countryside to thousands ever since. Now firmly on Derbyshires social calendar, the fixture has prospered through decades of massive change.
However, this year I flatly refuse to go. In times of financial hardship and austerity measures Chatsworth Country Fair organsisers are clearly taking the piss. look at these prices:- tickets cost £15 on Friday, £17 on both Saturday and Sunday with under-14s admitted free.
Unbelievable and an absolute disgrace to be charging so much. Can fair president, former Yorkshire and England cricketer Michael Vaughan, of Baslow, justify this exorbitant entrance fee?

Good Hope at Hope Show

The Hope Show, held at Marsh Farm in Hope, is run by an army of local volunteers, and is a key event in the Hope Valley social calendar.
The event was the first show under new president Steve Fox, who was brought up inBamford and now lives in Hope with his wife, Jayne.
More than 8,000 people were estimated to have visited the show for a great family day out, enjoying both the attractions on offer and the goods available at the 80 stalls on site.

Dad’s Army star Arthur Lowe honoured with blue plaque

A blue plaque dedicated to Dad’s Army star Arthur Lowe was unveiled at his
Derbyshire birthplace by comedy co-star Ian Lavender.
Lavender, who played Private Pike in the long-running sitcom, was in Hayfield
to lead the tribute to the much-loved Captain Mainwaring actor.
The ceremony was organised by Derbyshire County Council following a vote on
its website.
Lavender said he thought Lowe would have been “chuffed” with the honour.
